Preface

'To Create a Sculpture'

Ved Nayar was invited to participate in a sculpture workshop in Vadodra in 1998. The sculpture workshop was sponsored by Rakesh Agarwal. Each invited artist was expected to achieve a sculpture in bronze in the sculpture workshop’s duration of one month.
Ved started with making drawings to arrive at the concept & form of his sculpture. Ved made about forty drawings during the workshop. These exit as works of art independently & along with the bronze sculpture, which, he achieved. The sculpture is a human form & is part of the ‘Touch Stone’ series of his works.
DRAWING for Ved Nayar is a vehicle to arrive at his sculpture. Drawing is a complete expression to Ved Nayar…..Drawing is an assurance to Ved Nayar….Drawing is a vehicle for Ved Nayar to arrive at his sculpture & his painting… Ved’s drawings exist independently and along with his sculptures and paintings. Ved’s concern in the drawing, in sculpture and in painting, is human form or human face. Elements of environment and concern surround these to provide content, reference, context, stature, validity, contemporariness & its location & place.
Ved conceived his sculpture directly in wax & then caste in bronze.
It is displayed on a transparent acrylic pedestal against the changing sunlight during the day & against the stars during the night.
